About This Lisbon Guide
This site collects what genuinely costs nothing in Lisbon: 63 free walking tours listed across GuruWalk and freetour.com, plus the viewpoints, squares, gardens and free-entry windows that ask for no ticket. It operates no tours and sells nothing. Every walk belongs to an independent local guide, and every reservation happens on GuruWalk or freetour.com, where that walk is listed.
What The Guide Covers
The guide is organised around the walk categories: Alfama and Mouraria walks, Essential Lisbon walks, Baixa Chiado and Bairro Alto walks, Belém and the Age of Discovery walks, Miradouros and Viewpoints walks, and themed and after-dark walks. Each walk has its own page with its meeting point, its language and its rating. The wider free list sits alongside them: the Miradouro de Santa Luzia and the Belém riverside cost nothing, and the Gulbenkian garden is free daily while the museum is ticketed outside its Sunday window.
What Walk Pages Claim, And What They Leave Out
A walk page on this site never promises a route. No record says which landmarks any walk passes, so none is presented as covering or including a specific sight. What each page does state is what is actually known: the platform, the guide or operator behind it, the meeting point, the district and the language it runs in. Everything else, from the route to the fine detail, lives on the guide's own page on GuruWalk or freetour.com.
Free To Join, Pay What You Want
All of the walks here work the same way: free, pay what you want. A spot is reserved on the walk's own page on GuruWalk or freetour.com, the guide is met at the stated meeting point, and whatever the walk was worth is paid at the end. Apart from the Cacilhas ferry fare, no walk in the roster declares a required cost or a deposit. This site runs none of them; every one belongs to an independent local guide.
Where The Figures Come From
Every number on this site has a home. Ratings and review counts appear exactly as GuruWalk and freetour.com publish them, each with its own scale attached, since GuruWalk rates out of 5 and freetour.com out of 10. Durations, meeting points and languages come from each walk's own page. Entry rules for museums and monuments come from the operators that run them, and a place with conditions attached is never written up as simply free. A detail that cannot be settled is left out.
How Ratings Are Printed
The two platforms rate on different scales, and this site never converts one into the other. GuruWalk walks are rated out of 5, so the Free Tour Lisbon: Essential History, Fun Facts and Free Tastings walk by Tours Of My Life is rated 4.96 out of 5 across 25,140 reviews. freetour.com walks are rated out of 10, so the Original Free Tour of Lisbon by SANDEMANs Tours - Lisbon is rated 9.4 out of 10 across 14,048 reviews. Every printed rating states its own scale, every time.
Every Rating On Its Own Scale
- Free Tour Lisbon: Essential History, Fun Facts and Free Tastings, run by Tours Of My Life on GuruWalk: rated 4.96 out of 5 across 25,140 reviews.
- Original Free Tour of Lisbon, run by SANDEMANs Tours - Lisbon on freetour.com: rated 9.4 out of 10 across 14,048 reviews.
- Original Lisbon Free Tour, run by Original Lisbon Tours on freetour.com: rated 9.6 out of 10 across 6,630 reviews.
- Unmissable Lisbon Free Tour, run by Take on GuruWalk: rated 4.87 out of 5 across 6,312 reviews.
- The Unmissable Alfama: Secrets of Lisbon's Oldest District, run by Hi Lisbon Walking Tours on GuruWalk: rated 4.78 out of 5 across 1,706 reviews.
- Free Tour Age of Discoveries (Belém), run by Take on GuruWalk: rated 4.86 out of 5 across 1,593 reviews.
- Free Tour of Lisbon's Old Town (Alfama), run by Take on GuruWalk: rated 4.85 out of 5 across 1,402 reviews.
- Ratings keep the scale their platform prints: GuruWalk walks score out of 5, freetour.com walks score out of 10, and review counts come from the walk's own page.
The roster spans both platforms, and each figure stays on its home ground. A walk listed on GuruWalk carries a score out of 5, drawn from its own GuruWalk reviews; a walk listed on freetour.com carries a score out of 10, drawn from its freetour.com reviews. Nothing is converted between the two scales and nothing is borrowed from another source. Walks with no reviews published yet are marked as such rather than given a number that does not exist.
Where These Tours Run
- This site lists 63 free walking tours across GuruWalk and freetour.com. Each walk is run by an independent local guide and reserved on its own platform page, never on this site.
- The walks meet in Alfama, Mouraria, Baixa, Chiado, Bairro Alto and Belém, and run in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German and Polish. Each walk's own page names its language, meeting point and duration.
- This site runs no walk of its own. Reservations happen on GuruWalk or freetour.com, and the guide who meets you is the one who published the walk.
- Every walk is free, pay what you want. A spot is reserved at no charge, and what you give the guide at the end is yours to decide.
Where Each Walk Is Reserved
Reservations never happen on this site. Every walk in the roster belongs to an independent local guide and lives on its own page, either on GuruWalk or on freetour.com. The walk pages here name the platform, the guide, the meeting point and the district, and the booking itself is made on the platform's page for that walk. This site operates no tour and runs no booking system of its own.
How The Facts Are Kept
Every free claim on this site traces to a recorded fact. Attractions are held as free, conditionally free or paid, and the condition always travels with the claim: the Castelo hill and the Alfama streets are free to walk while São Jorge Castle is ticketed, and the Belém riverside is free while Belém Tower is ticketed. Anything unresolved stays off the site until it is settled.
How This Site Is Paid
This site sells nothing and operates nothing. Every walk belongs to an independent local guide, and the reservation is made on GuruWalk or freetour.com. When a reader books through a link here, that platform pays this site a fee; the reader pays nothing extra. The walk itself remains free, pay what you want: reserve a spot, walk, and tip the guide what the walk was worth.
Page Map
- The home page gathers the walks, the free sights and the entry rules in one place.
- Every walk has a page of its own naming the platform, the guide, the meeting point, the language, the duration and the rating, with the link to reserve on GuruWalk or freetour.com.
- The Alfama And Mouraria Walks category holds the walks that meet in and around Lisbon's oldest district, in English, Spanish, French and Italian.
- The Belem And The Age Of Discovery Walks category holds the walks that meet at Jardim Afonso de Albuquerque, Rua de Belém 109 and the Palácio Nacional de Belém.
- The disclosure page names GuruWalk and freetour.com as the platforms whose referral links appear here, and states plainly that this site operates no tour.
