About This Directory
This site sells nothing and runs no tours of its own. Every walk in the roster belongs to an independent local guide, and every walk is free, pay what you want: a place is reserved on GuruWalk or on freetour.com, the walk happens, and each walker hands the guide whatever they choose at the end. Reservations never happen here. The roster spans both platforms, and each booking is made on the walk's own page on the platform that carries it.
Every Walk Has A Page
Six categories hold the 63 free walking tours in this directory: Alfama and Mouraria, Essential Lisbon, Baixa Chiado and Bairro Alto, Belém and the Age of Discovery, Miradouros and Viewpoints, and Themed and After Dark. Every walk has a page of its own. GuruWalk carries most of them, and the remainder are listed on freetour.com.
Walks that run only in Spanish, German or Italian keep their pages but carry no cards. The Spanish walks by Blue Emotion Tours and 1·2·Tours are among them, and so is the German viewpoints walk by Manuel & Jörg. Each is named with its language wherever it appears on this site. Cards go only to walks with an English listing, so some pages stand without one.
The freetour.com listings are named as such wherever they appear: the SANDEMANs Original Free Tour of Lisbon, the Original Lisbon Free Tour, the Spanish walks by Paseando por Europa S.L, Victor Garcia and Karla Montenegro, and the English and Italian walks by Luigi Caggianella and Fernando Duarte. Every other walk in the roster is a GuruWalk listing, and the two platforms are never swapped.
How Facts Are Checked
Lisbon mixes free streets with ticketed doors on the same ground, so each claim here is tied to a named place and its own entry rules. The Castelo hill and the Alfama lanes cost nothing to walk, while São Jorge Castle is ticketed. The Praça do Comércio is free to cross, while the Rua Augusta Arch viewpoint is paid. A place with conditions attached is never written up as simply free: the condition sits in the same sentence or the one that follows.
How Each Walk Is Checked
Nobody connected to this site has taken any of these walks. What gets checked is each walk's own page on GuruWalk or freetour.com: the guide or operator behind it, the meeting point, the district, the languages and the duration. Apart from the ferry fare on the Cacilhas walk, no walk's own page declares a separate required cost, so no other is described here as carrying extra charges. Where a walk's page and this site disagree, the walk's page wins.
How A Walk Enters The Roster
A walk gets its own page only if it is a real, bookable free tour on GuruWalk or freetour.com, run by a named guide or operator with a published meeting point in a named district of Lisbon. It must be free, pay what you want, with no separate required cost declared on its own page. Anything that cannot be matched to a live page on either platform stays off the roster, and no walk is added to fill a gap.
Where Each Rating Comes From
Every rating printed here is copied whole from the walk's own platform page, scale included. GuruWalk works on a 5-point scale, so the Tours Of My Life essential history walk reads 4.96 out of 5 across 25,140 GuruWalk reviews. freetour.com works on a 10-point scale and no figure is ever converted between the two, so the SANDEMANs original walk reads 9.4 out of 10 across 14,048 freetour.com reviews. Nothing is rounded up or trimmed.
Why No Walk Carries A Price
Free, pay what you want is the whole price of every walk listed here. A place is reserved at no cost through GuruWalk or freetour.com, the walk happens, and the walker decides afterwards what to hand over. That is why no money figure, no from price and no tip amount is printed against any walk. There is simply no price to check.
Entry Rules On Every Attraction
Each attraction entry carries its own entry terms. Where a place costs nothing only under a condition, that condition sits right beside the claim. The Castelo hill and the Alfama streets cost nothing to walk, while São Jorge Castle sells tickets. Operators run their own regimes, so no rule is stretched from one to another.
What This Site Leaves Out
How This Site Earns Money
Money never decides what appears here. A tour gets a page because it is free, pay what you want, and reserved through GuruWalk or freetour.com, not because of anything else. Ratings arrive exactly as each guide's own listing states them, on the scale that listing uses, and no figure is ever reshaped to fit another platform's format.
